Managing your subscription
Compare Free and Pro, upgrade or cancel, and keep an eye on your monthly usage.
Updated July 2, 2026
Draftl has two plans: Free and Pro. Free gives you a monthly allowance of every core feature so you can try the platform, while Pro removes the caps entirely and unlocks additional AI models. This guide covers what each plan includes, how to upgrade or cancel, and how to track your usage.
Free vs. Pro
Free plan limits reset at the start of each calendar month. Pro removes them all.
| Feature | Free (per month) | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Essays | 1 | Unlimited |
| Chat messages | 5 | Unlimited |
| Essay grades | 1 | Unlimited |
| Extracurricular generations | 3 | Unlimited |

Pricing
Pro costs $15/month on the monthly plan, which renews automatically. If you know you'll be writing all season, the Admissions Cycle plan drops the price to $12/month for a 6-month commitment — $72 total, covering the August–January application window and saving you $18 compared to paying monthly.
How to upgrade
- Go to the pricing page and choose your billing cycle — Monthly or Admissions Cycle.
- Click Purchase on the Pro tier.
- Review your order summary and the "What You Get with Pro" feature list.
- Click Complete Purchase to head to Stripe checkout and pay.
Once payment succeeds, your account switches to Pro immediately and every limit disappears.
How to cancel
You can cancel anytime from Settings → Billing (/dashboard/settings). Click Cancel in the Billing section, and your cancellation is scheduled for the end of your current billing period — you keep full Pro access until then, and your account moves to Free afterward.
Subscriptions aren't refunded, so canceling stops future charges rather than reversing past ones. Since you keep Pro access through the period you've already paid for, there's no downside to canceling early.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, your account drops to the Free plan right away while Stripe retries the charge. To avoid an interruption, make sure your card on file is current before your renewal date.
Tracking your usage
The Usage page shows exactly where you stand this cycle. Each feature — essays, chat messages, essay grading, extracurricular generation and grading, admissions analysis, grammar checks, and cliché checks — gets its own progress bar showing how much of your allowance you've used.
A few things to know:
- Bars are color-coded: green under 75%, amber from 75–89%, and red at 90% and above.
- A Near limit badge appears on any feature at 90% or more of its cap, so you get a heads-up before you run out.
- On Pro, every feature shows an Unlimited badge instead of a bar.
- All Free plan counters reset on the first of each calendar month.
If you're bumping into limits regularly, the Free banner on the Usage page includes an Upgrade button that takes you straight to pricing.
Questions about your account
Plan and billing details live in the Billing section of Settings, where your current plan appears as a "Free" or "Pro" badge. If something looks wrong with a charge or your plan status, reach out through Contact Support. And if you're deciding whether Pro is worth it, spend a week on Free first — the Usage page will show you exactly which limits you're hitting.
